Otter.ai Receives $320 Million Growth Funding from General Catalyst

Meeting notes app Otter.ai has raised $320 million in growth funding from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund. The company will use the money for enterprise growth and international expansion.

Otter.ai, which automatically transcribes meetings, announced on October 20, 2026 that it had secured $320 million in growth funding from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund (CVF). According to the company, the funding will be used for the next phase of enterprise growth, sales and marketing strategy, international expansion, and product development.

Otter frames this investment around its goal of becoming an enterprise knowledge layer where every conversation is captured, connected, and turned into action. The company’s co-founder and CEO, Sam Liang, describes the funding as a vote of confidence in the structure Otter has built and says they will roll out enterprise agentic workflows in the new phase.

The company’s scale and product line

According to Otter, the platform has more than 40 million users worldwide; teams at more than 86% of Fortune 500 companies use Otter. The company says it has transcribed more than 1 billion meetings and delivered more than $1.5 billion in time savings for its customers. Its proprietary automatic speech recognition and speaker separation technology is highlighted as the product’s core differentiator.

On the product side, the company had announced three voice AI agents in March 2025: Meeting Agent, which joins meetings and answers questions; Sales Agent, which accompanies reps during sales calls; and SDR Agent, which gives product demos to prospects on its own. In October 2025, it added an open API for integrations with platforms such as Jira, HubSpot, and Salesforce, a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects Otter data with external models such as Claude, advanced admin controls, and a desktop app that records without bots. The company achieved HIPAA compliance in July 2025 and expanded language support to French, Spanish, and Japanese.

General Catalyst’s unusual funding model

CVF works differently from a traditional capital raise. The fund pre-funds the company’s sales and marketing budget; in return, it claims only the customer value created by that spend, and that claim is capped at a fixed amount. Once the cap is reached, the remaining lifetime value of customers stays with the company. If the spend does not deliver the expected results, the fund absorbs the loss; the company does not have to repay it out of pocket. General Catalyst presents this structure as an alternative to debt that must be repaid on a fixed schedule or dilutive equity.

Otter has a concrete growth track record. In a statement in December 2025, the company said it had crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in March 2025 with fewer than 200 employees and generated more than $500,000 in revenue per employee. At that time, its user base was above 35 million. Previous institutional investors include Spectrum Equity, which led the $50 million Series B in 2021.

Why voice data is considered strategic

CVF co-founder Pranav Singhvi says voice is one of the biggest untapped opportunities in enterprise AI. Transcribing meeting recordings is now a commodity; the real debate is how this data can become a searchable enterprise memory in areas such as sales, consulting, training, finance, and legal. Otter ties the investment precisely to this layer, that is, to turning what is said into an asset that later drives decisions.

The $320 million package came at a time when AI investment is shifting from model development toward enterprise data layers. For Otter, the next test will be how quickly it can convert its 40 million-user base into enterprise contracts and agentic workflows.
