Anthropic announces $16.8 billion quarterly revenue ahead of IPO

Anthropic reported $16.8 billion in revenue and positive free cash flow in the third quarter of 2026. The company presented investors with a profitable picture ahead of its IPO.

Anthropic announced that it generated $16.8 billion in revenue in the third quarter of 2026. The company disclosed these results in financial statements it shared with potential investors ahead of its IPO. The figure, covering July through September, is about 45% above the $11.6 billion in Q2.

Rapid quarter-over-quarter growth

The company’s 2026 performance showed steady growth throughout the year. Revenue, which was $4.7 billion in Q1, rose to $11.6 billion in Q2 and $16.8 billion in Q3. This shows that Anthropic has become one of the fastest enterprise growth stories in tech history over the past year.

What really surprised financial circles was the profitability side. The company reported adjusted operating profit and generated positive free cash flow. Adjusted operating margin rose above 11%, and gross profit margin rose above about 85%. This reverses the widespread Wall Street skepticism that AI companies are just cash burners.

Enterprise contracts drive profitability

The high margins are driven less by individual subscriptions than by API and enterprise agent agreements with large organizations. Claude solutions are becoming part of critical infrastructure in areas such as finance, healthcare, drug development, and law, generating steady cash flow through long-term committed contracts.

Improvement on the cost side is also notable. The deployment of next-generation TPUs and custom AI chips on AWS and Google Cloud infrastructure significantly reduced inference cost per token. Meanwhile, companies standardizing Claude Code and autonomous workflows in their software teams multiplied the volume of tokens consumed.

IPO valuation expectations rise

The picture shared by CEO Dario Amodei and the finance team in investor briefings raised the valuation bar for the IPO planned for early 2027. Wall Street analysts believe the company’s market cap could come in at a $300 to $350 billion range. This level could place Anthropic among the 15 most valuable publicly traded technology companies.

With its annualized run rate exceeding $65 billion as of July, the company is expected to push toward a $110 billion annualized revenue band by the end of 2026. Exact figures will become clear with official filings during the IPO process.
