There is more than one way to deactivate WordPress plugins. The first is, as you probably know, from the admin panel, but if you searched Google for “deactivating plugins in WordPress” and ended up here, this probably isn’t what you were looking for 😉
Activating/Deactivating WordPress Plugins Using the Admin Panel (Method 1)
Deactivating WordPress Plugins Using File Manager
In this method, you first need to connect to the server’s file system.
For this, you can use third-party software called FileZilla, or you can use file manager applications from the control panel provided to you by the company you purchased your server service from.
- If you are going to use third-party software called FileZilla, you need to know your FTP username and password.
- If you are going to use a web-based file manager application from the control panel provided to you by the company you purchased your server service from, you need to know the panel access URL, your username, and your password to access your control panel.
Now let’s see how to deactivate plugins in WordPress by changing the folder name
Then, among the folders on your server, inside the WordPress folder, rename the “wp-content” folder’s “plugins” folder to “plugins.deactivate” and click the Plugins menu in the control panel.
It will display a warning indicating that all plugins have been deactivated. After that, rename the folder we changed to “plugins.deactivate” back to “plugins”, and from the WordPress control panel you can activate the plugins you want one by one.
